Elevate Your Impact by Keeping Your Coaching Skills Current
As a Certified Nutrition Coach, you are passionate about making a difference in people's lives by encouraging healthier eating habits and lifestyle choices. This passion is matched by your commitment to maintaining the highest standards in your field.
To ensure your skills remain in excellent health, all NASM Nutrition Coaches are required to renew their certification every two years. This renewal process is essential for providing your clients with the most current insights and guided support. By keeping your credentials updated, you demonstrate your dedication to professional growth and client success.
As an NASM Certified Nutrition Coach, you are required to earn 1.9 NASM-approved CEUs every two-year period. Choose from a variety of course topics, including but not limited to:
- Wellness
- Behavior Change
- Weight Loss
- Weight Loss Medications (GLP-1s)
- Stress Management
- Sports Nutrition
We also accept CEUs from NASM's Preferred Providers. You can find the current list of NASM approved providers here. Courses that are not preapproved with NASM require a petition.
For instructions on the petition process and accessing the portal, please reference the Recertification Portal User Guide.

FAQs
How often do I need to renew?
The NASM CNC certification must be renewed every two (2) years to ensure that NASM CNC professionals are current with best practice guidelines.
What is a CEU?
CEUs or Continuing Education Units are based upon contact hours. Contact hours are defined by the number of clock hours spent in direct participation in a structured educational format. One (1) contact hour is equivalent to point-one (0.1) CEU.
Can I renew if my current certification has expired?
The NASM CNC credential will expire if all renewal requirements have not been met by the expiration date. Renewal applications can be submitted up to one year late if all continuing education courses have been completed before or within 90 days of the certification expiration date. Additional fees will apply.
Is a CPR certification required in order to renew?
A CPR/AED certification is not required in order to renew your Nutrition Coach certification.
What happens if my renewal is under audit?
If your application is chosen for audit, you will have 30 days to submit all requested supporting documentation to the NASM Recertification Department.
*Excludes CPT and bundles with CPT. Exams, workshops, Gymternship, administrative fees, re-enroll packages, and courses included in NASM One do not get the 50% discount.
