FAQs

CEU is an acronym for Continuing Education Unit. CEUs are intended to continue to develop knowledge and skills, as well as enhance professional skills beyond the levels required for entry-level practice.

CEUs are based upon contact hours. Contact hours are defined by the number of clock hours spent in direct participation in a structured educational format. One (1) contact hour is equivalent to point-one (0.1) CEU.

You can find NASM's Continuing Education courses by clicking here. To locate NASM-approved CEUs, visit our Course Providers page by clicking here.

Continuing education courses not pre-approved with NASM can be reviewed by petition only. A $25 nonrefundable administrative fee is required for each course/event petitioned. You may petition a course in the recertification section in your NASM Student Portal.

When an application is under audit, it signifies a random selection in which the submission is reviewed personally by one of our staff. If any documentation is missing or additional information is required, you will be notified via email.

Once you successfully complete your recertification or renewal requirements, a digital copy of your certificate will become available to you within 24 hours, but in most cases immediately. Within 4-6 weeks, a hardcopy certificate will be mailed to the address you have on your NASM account.

If the CPR/AED card is completed with the 90-day grace period after your certification, it will be accepted for your renewal.

For your convenience, we offer an option to get your CPR/AED certification online with NASM.

IMPORTANT COVID-19 NOTICE:

NASM recognizes that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there is very limited availability of hands-on skills assessments for CPR/AED certifications. NASM will be temporarily waiving the hands-on skills assessment requirement and accepting online only CPR/AED courses. For your convenience, we offer an option to get your CPR/AED certification online with NASM. This waiver applies to exam candidates and professionals recertifying their credentials.

This waiver will be in effect until the CDC and government recommendations for social distancing have been lifted in the United States. Once the social distancing orders have been lifted, there will be a 60-day window before the hands-on requirement will be reinstated.

NASM recommends that anyone who certified or recertified during the Waiver Period obtain the hands-on skills assessment once available to avoid any insurance or liability issues which could arise due to the lack of such training.

Please note: The online course must still include Adult CPR and AED

NASM's Recertify for Life gives NASM professionals the opportunity to avoid recertification and renewal application fees with a one-time fee of $399. NASM-CPTs are still required to submit a recertification application and show proof of 2.0 CEU's (including a mandatory copy of a current CPR/AED card) every 2 years.
