What You'll Learn

The Hybrid Training Professional Bundle provides you with the skills you need to work as both a personal trainer and group fitness instructor so that you stand out to gym managers. Start your fitness career with three powerful courses that will help you work with a variety of clients.

NASM’s Certified Personal Trainer (NASM-CPT) Guided Study program provides you with the knowledge you need to perform assessments and create custom workouts. You’ll learn how to utilize NASM’s Optimum Performance Training™ Model, which helps clients of all levels reach their fitness goals.

Your NASM-CPT program also gives you access to the NASM EDGE app so that you can study for your exam with flashcards and practice questions, as well as manage and train clients virtually.

As an AFAA Group Fitness Instructor (AFAA-GFI), design and teach your favorite group fitness classes. You’ll learn about circuit training, yoga, pilates and more. This course can be taken at the same time as your Certified Personal Trainer certification. You'll gain the ability to deliver both an entertaining and engaging group exercise workout for everyone.

Then, expand on what you've learned in the NASM-CPT and add a group dimension with the Group Personal Training Specialization. With the combination of these three courses, you'll be ready to take on a variety of clients while working at a gym or health club.

NASM’s Personal Trainer Certification (NASM-CPT) and Group Fitness Instructor (AFAA-GFI) are both certifications, which means you must recertify every two years.

On the contrary, the Group Personal Training Specialization (NASM-GPTS) is a specialization, not a certification, which means it does not need to be renewed. Once you pass your NASM-GPTS final exam, your specialization certificate never expires.

In order to recertify, NASM-CPTs and AFAA-GFIs are required to earn 2.0 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) every two years. The NASM-GPTS is worth 1.9 NASM CEUs upon passing the exam. The mandatory CPR/AED certification is 0.1 CEUs.

You have 180 days to complete the NASM-CPT and AFAA-GFI, and 1 year to complete your NASM-GPTS final exam. Each course is typically completed in just 8-12 weeks. Some complete their NASM-CPT certification in as little as 4 weeks. Extensions are available for each course for an additional fee.

The OPT® model is our 5-phase training model that starts with Stabilization and ends with Power. The NASM-CPT program utilizes the Optimum Performance framework to ensure that all NASM-CPTs are well-versed in our training methods. Read here to learn more about the OPT® Model.

NASM’s Personal Trainer Certification (NASM-CPT) is an NCCA accredited certification, meaning you must pass a live proctored exam, which can be administered online or in-person. AFAA's Group Fitness Instructor (AFAA-GFI) is also NCCA accredited, and you must pass a live, in-person exam. On the contrary, the Group Personal Training Specialization (GPTS) final exam is administered online and can be taken from the comfort of your own home, or wherever you prefer to take tests.

Don't fret! A free retest is included as part of the NASM-CPT Guided Study program. For more details, please refer to your Candidate Handbook.
