What You'll Learn

The Hybrid Training Professional bundle provides you with the skills you need to work as both a personal trainer and group fitness instructor so that you stand out to gym managers. Start your fitness career with three powerful courses that will help you work with a variety of clients.

NASM’s Certified Personal Trainer Premium Self-Study program provides you with the knowledge you need to perform assessments and create custom workouts. And with NASM’s Optimum Performance Training™ Model, you’ll learn how to utilize these tools to help clients of all levels reach their fitness goals.

As an AFAA Certified Group Fitness Instructor (AFAA-CGFI), design and teach your favorite group fitness classes. You’ll learn about circuit training, yoga, pilates and more. This course can be taken at the same time as your Certified Personal Trainer program. You'll gain the ability to deliver both an entertaining and engaging group exercise workout for everyone.

Then expand on what you've learned in the Certified Personal Trainer course and add a group dimension with the Group Personal Training Specialization. With the combination of these three courses, you'll be ready to take on a variety of clients while working at a gym or health club.

FAQs

You must recertify/renew every two years to ensure that your NASM Personal Trainer credentials stay up to date with current best-practice guidelines and skills. You will be required to earn 2.0 NASM-approved CEUs every two-year period. This includes 0.1 CEUs from the mandatory CPR/AED certification.

The AFAA Certified Group Fitness Instructor (AFAA-CGFI) is also a certification, which means you must renew every two years.

The Group Personal Training Specialization (NASM-GPTS) does not require renewal. Once you pass your final exam, your certificates will never expire.

You will have 180 days from the date of enrollment to take either of the exam options for the NASM Certified Personal Trainer program and the AFAA-CGFI exam, and 365 days to complete your NASM-GPTS exam. Most courses can be completed in as few as 8 weeks; the NASM Certified Personal Trainer course can be completed in as few as 4 weeks. An extension for the exams can be purchased by contacting NASM Member Services at 1-800-460-6276.

The OPT™ Model is our 5-phase training model that starts with Stabilization and ends with Power. The Personal Trainer program utilizes the Optimum Performance framework to ensure that all Personal Trainers are well-versed in our training methods. Read here to learn more about the OPT™ Model.

For the Certified Personal Trainer final exam, you have two exam options:
Option 1. NASM Personal Trainer Certificate (Non-Proctored Exam)
This non-proctored and open-book exam has 100 questions and requires a passing grade of 70%. This non-accredited exam is administered online only. You will have 3 hours to complete the exam, and you must take the exam within 180 days of your enrollment date.

Option 2. NASM Certified Personal Trainer (NCCA Accredited Certification Exam)
The NCCA is a nationally recognized third-party agency that accredits certification programs which are able to meet and comply with its standards. The NCCA exam is a nationally accredited exam. This proctored and closed-book exam has 120 questions. You must pass with a scaled score of 70 or better. This exam can be administered either in-person or online, and you will have 2 hours to complete the test. You must take this exam within 180 days of your enrollment date.

The choice is yours, and selecting which exam to take will depend on your goals.

AFAA's Group Fitness Instructor (AFAA-GFI) can be administered either in-person or online. The Group Personal Training Specialization (GPTS) exam is administered online.

Don’t worry, we have you covered. For the Certified Personal Trainer Course, you have 2 options for the final exam, and the retest options are different for each:
Option 1: NASM Personal Trainer Certificate (Non-Proctored Exam)
You have 3 attempts to pass this exam option. If you do not pass after 3 attempts, a retest can be purchased by calling NASM Member Services at 1-800-460-6276.

Option 2: NASM Certified Personal Trainer (NCCA Accredited Certification Exam)
This is a closed-book and proctored exam, and if you do not pass it the first time, a retest can be purchased. Please call NASM Member Services at 1-800-460-6276. A retest is included with the Premium Self-Study and All-Inclusive programs.
