1987

NASM was founded in 1987 by Robert M. Goldman with the goal of creating standardized educational programs for the personal fitness training industry.

1998

NASM CPT becomes the first holistic (exercise + nutrition certification). In 1998, Neal Spruce relocated NASM to California and integrated it with Apex Fitness.

2000

Dr. Mike Clark joins NASM® as CEO and creates the OPT model. This model, which power, aims to reduce injury risk and has become integrated into NASM's educational program

2005

NASM® gains NCCA accreditation

2009

NASM® joins the Ascend Learning family

2015

In 2015, NASM acquired the Athletics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA), further broadening its educational scope to include group fitness instruction.

2020 - 2021

Certified Nutrition Coach, Certified Wellness Coach, and Edge App launch

2024

Over the years, NASM has expanded its certification offerings and has educated over 1.5 million individuals globally.
