Reset the standard: full stretch at the bottom (heels below the toes on an elevated surface), a controlled 2-to-3-second lowering, a brief pause at the stretch, and a deliberate squeeze at the top.
That pause at the bottom is the single most valuable cue you'll give, it removes the bounce and forces the muscle, not the tendon, to produce the movement. Expect working loads to drop when form improves; that's the stimulus finally arriving.
