Do I have to renew these qualifications?

Both the Certified Personal Trainer and Certified Nutrition Coach credentials must be renewed every two years. The Corrective Exercise Specialization does not require renewal. Once you pass your exam, your certificate will never expire.

How long will I have to complete the courses?

You will have 180 days from the date of enrollment to take either of the exam options for the NASM Certified Personal Trainer program, and 365 days to complete your NASM Corrective Exercise Specialization and NASM Certified Nutrition Coach exam. Most courses can be completed in as few as eight weeks; the NASM Certified Personal Trainer course can be completed in as few as four weeks. An extension for the exams can be purchased by contacting NASM Member Services at 1-800-460-6276.

What's included in the CPT Practical Skills Workshop?

The CPT Practical Skills Workshop demonstrates how to best utilize NASM's Optimum Performance Training® (OPT™) model to customize and align fitness programming for various client goals. The course consists of two modules: Course Introduction and Prep, and CPT Practical Skills Workshop Lecture Videos.

The first module (Course Introduction and Prep) focuses on level setting knowledge by providing a pre-test to gauge where the learner is in their education. It also provides prep and prep materials to review prior to the workshop.

The second module (CPT Practical Skills Workshop Lecture Videos) is a video-based learning experience led by NASM Master Instructors, Ken Miller and Wendy Batts. It covers the Human Movement System, Movement Assessments, the OPT Model, and how you use that information to develop Program Design. It also includes an hour long OPT Model Workout.

Successfully passing the final test with a 70% enables CPTs to earn 0.9 CEUs.

What is the Optimum Performance Training® Model?

The OPT™ Model is our 5-phase training model that starts with Stabilization and ends with Power. The NASM Certified Personal Trainer program utilizes the Optimum Performance framework to ensure that all Certified Personal Trainers are well-versed in our training methods. What if I do not pass my exam for the NASM Certified Personal Trainer program?

Don't worry, we have you covered. For the Certified Personal Trainer Course, you have two options for the exam, and the retest options are different for each:

Option 1: NASM Personal Trainer Certificate Exam (Non-Proctored Exam)

You have three attempts to pass this exam option. If you do not pass after three attempts, a retest can be purchased by calling NASM Member Services at 1-800-460-6276.

Option 2: NASM Certified Personal Trainer (NCCA Accredited Certification Exam)

If you do not pass this exam option the first time, a retest can be purchased. Please call NASM Member Services at 1-800-460-6276. A retest is included with the Premium Self Study and All-Inclusive programs.
