Recertification ensures that qualified professionals maintain entry level guidelines by participating in approved continuing education programs. Continuing education programs are intended to promote continued competence, development of knowledge and skills, and enhancement of professional skills and judgment beyond the levels required for entry-level practice.

NASM-CPT Recertification

How often do I need to recertify?

To support NASM’s commitment to protect health and safety, the NASM-CPT certification must be recertified every two (2) years. This ensures that NASM-CPT professionals are current with the best-practice guidelines and the specific knowledge, skills, and abilities described in the most recent Job Analysis Study.

What are the NASM-CPT recertification requirements?

NASM CPTs are required to maintain their current CPR and AED certifications as well as earn 2.0 CEUs (20 hours) of approved continuing education that focuses on:

  • increasing knowledge, skills, and abilities in the areas of client

  • assessment

  • exercise technique

  • program design

  • nutrition

  • client relations and administration

  • professional practice and responsibility

For additional information on what is approved for CEUs, please review the CPT Recertification Application (PDF, 769K.) To locate NASM-approved CEUs, visit the NASM Store or our Board of Certification (BOC) page for a list of NASM-approved CEU providers.
