Region: Hip and Thigh

Origin: Superior aspect of the lateral border of the ischial tuberosity. 

Insertion: Superior aspect of the quadrate line which extends downward from the intertrochanteric crest of the femur.

Isolated function: Assists in concentric acceleration of external rotation of the hip.

Integrated function: 
-Assists in eccentric deceleration of internal rotation of the hip.
-Assists in dynamic stabilization of the lumbo-pelvic-hip complex.

Nerve Supply:  Sacral plexus, L4, 5, S1.
