Military Pursuit of Excellence Award
Check back in April 2011 for the next Military Pursuit of Excellence Award call for applications
NASM and the California University of Pennsylvania (CalU) are pleased to once again offer the Military Pursuit of Excellence in Health and Fitness Award opportunity for an individual who has or still does faithfully serve as a member of the United States Armed Forces and wishes to pursue a career in the health and fitness industry.
The military has instilled in you the importance of health and physical fitness, in addition to a disciplined approach to the profession, and NASM is proud to support the development and professionalization of the health, fitness, performance, and sports medicine industry through its higher education initiatives. The ability to deliver quality, innovative, online education programs has been a long-term goal for NASM. Through our collaborative partnership with CalU, NASM offers the Pursuit of Excellence Scholarship. Award winners of this one-of-a-kind scholarship receive full tuition funding (valued at over $15,000) to be applied toward a Master of Science in Exercise Science and Health Promotion at California University of Pennsylvania – in one of four specific tracks:
- Wellness and Fitness
- Performance Enhancement and Injury Prevention
- Rehabilitation Science
- Sports Psychology
The award will be presented by NASM to coincide with CalU’s Fall enrollment. Military applicants are also eligible (and encouraged) to apply for the non-military Pursuit of Excellence award.

Why you should apply:

"As my service in the Active Army drew near an end I found myself wondering what I was going to do when done. The Army instilled a strong sense of fitness in me, so a career in the health and fitness industry seemed like a natural transition. After becoming certified through the National Academy of Sports Medicine I returned to school for my bachelors and now, half way through the Master’s program at CalU, I cannot help but wonder “what’s next?” The opportunities are endless within this industry I love. The scientifically based applications found in the curriculum are designed to train the general population and professional and tactical athletes alike. Best of all, since the classes are web-based, I can sit down anytime, anywhere to study."
