Calabasas, Calif. (November 24, 2009)—The National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM), a global leader in personal training certification and sports performance training, is preparing to complete the re-accreditation process of its certified personal trainer (NASM CPT) credential through the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA).  A necessary step in achieving re-accreditation is the examination of occupational tasks performed by entry-level personal fitness trainers.  The survey will be available for all NASM CPTs to complete between December 1 and 31, 2009.

“This is a great process, one that puts the direction of the industry into the hands of those who are currently certified professionals,” said Sarah Bulger, NASM Provider Program Director and Manager of the Board of Certification.  The survey is designed to identify the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to perform the daily tasks of a personal fitness trainer.  The feedback received from the survey will serve as a blueprint for the NASM CPT examination and allow NASM to maintain the most accurate representation of minimum competencies within the personal training industry.”

In line with widely-accepted industry best practices, web-based distribution and statistical analysis of the Professional Trainer’s Job Analysis survey will be performed by Schroeder Measurement Technologies, Inc.  This directed oversight by an independent third-party aligns with exam development procedures required by the NCCA.

“We look forward to the insight survey respondents will have to offer,” said Jim McKenzie, NASM President and COO.  “With their insight, NASM’s CPT certification will continue to serve as a leading credential in the industry, and give professionals the tools they need to systematically and safely progress clients towards their health and fitness goals.”

This online survey will be sent to eligible CPTs on December 1, 2009.  Respondents simply need to click on the link provided in the e-mail and complete the survey.  The NASM Board of Certification will be offering .1 CEUs to any eligible trainer who completes the survey.
