Dean Starkey
Vice President, Operations, Product Development, and Information Technology
Dean Starkey is the Vice President of Operations, Product Development, and Information Technology at the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) where he manages the technology personnel, systems, hardware, and all technology related projects.
Starkey works with NASM Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Micheal Clark, in executing NASM's vision to be the global authority in health and fitness not only to the fitness community, but to everyone with a desire and commitment to lead an active and healthy lifestyle. It was Dr. Clark’s vision and passion for educating people in the areas of health and fitness that inspired Starkey to sell his own Internet consulting business, which he ran for eight years, and join NASM in 2005. Starkey’s long-term strategic plan is to create and sustain a thriving technological infrastructure that will support and accommodate NASM’s anticipated growth.
A self-taught expert in Web technologies and software, Starkey previously worked as a sales engineer for Versifi Inc., a content management software company in Orange County, Calif. In this position, he specialized in serving as a liaison between engineers, sales and marketing personnel, and customers.
Starkey is a former world class pole-vaulter who won the bronze medal in the 1997 World Championships in Athens, Greece.
